The Naperville Writers Group offers you the opportunity to develop your craft and receive thoughtful, positive and useful critiques. Our members come from throughout the Chicago area and range from published, award-winning writers to those who write only for pleasure. Writers are invited to attend a few meetings to see how we operate. We meet every Wednesday evening, with a hiatus between Thanksgiving and the New Year. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 at 7:00 PM. Visitors are welcome. Please see About Us for our location and other meeting details. If you have questions or would like to speak to someone about the NWG, please see our Contact page. Whether you favor prose or poetry, fact or fiction, novels or short stories, plays or screenplays, share your creative side with us! |
Join NWG member and best-selling author Earl Merkel as he gives a lively and informative presentation about that most elusive of creatures, the literary agent. Meet in Room 20 of Goldspohn Hall on the NCC campus in Naperville on Wednesday, May 21st at 7PM. If you're an NWG member, but haven't yet received your user name and password, please contact the Webmaster at your earliest convenience. Got some news the whole world needs to hear? Send it to The Yellow Box, and we'll pass it on. |

What's This All About?Successful writers have two common behaviors. First, they write a lot. Second, they seek out honest criticism. The fact is, it's hard to improve your writing unless you are read, regularly. As an NWG member you'll find that you write more, and with growing confidence, with a little help from your fellow practitioners. It's Pronounced "En-Wig"No stuffed shirts here. We love to write, and to read, and we prefer to be around others who love to write and read. So, while our regular meetings end at 9PM, the irregular meeting starts right afterward and goes until the wait staff throws us out. Looking for lively conversation? You've found it! Check Us Out!Attend a meeting and see for yourself. Join in the discussion and, when you're ready, become a member and present some of your work to the group.

Books to Read About the Art and Craft of Writing NWG member and best-selling author Earl Merkel says "Very simply, anyone who wishes to write professionally should read--and preferably, commit to memory--every page of Telling Lies for Fun & Profit: A Manual for Fiction Writers (Harper Paperbacks) by Lawrence Block. This masterwork is a collection of both practical how-to advice and sage philosophizing on the art of storytelling." read on
A Selection of Poetry and Prose From Our Members NWG member Joe Larkin has been a professional communicator throughout his working life. Now in retirement, he is working at his true calling, writing poetry and fiction. His poem The Photographer Takes the Morning examines communication of another kind. read on
Books Worth Spending Time With NWG member Marilyn Giese says "Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy, and the West is not easy reading, but it is a fascinating and gut-wrenching plea for tolerance and cooperation from a Muslim woman who loved her country, her God, and the West." read on |
