About Us

Twenty Years of Chasing the Muse!

Founded in 1987 by a small number of writers, the Naperville Writers Group has grown into a vibrant community of more than 50 members hailing from all over the western suburbs of Chicago. In 2002 we re-organized as an Illinois non-profit corporation, a status we proudly maintain to this day.

We have a two-fold mission. First, we serve our members by providing a welcoming environment in which every writer can develop their craft, building both confidence and skill, with help from their fellow writers.

Second, we serve the community at large by raising the profile of writers and their art. We have published Rivulets, our literary review, annually since our group's inception. We are also very active during National Poetry Month, sponsoring a series of readings each April. In 2006, at our urging, Mayor Pradel of Naperville issued a proclamation supporting and celebrating National Poetry Month. Our members, however, are active year-round, taking part in readings, contests, and other activities throughout the Chicagoland area, and nationally.

In short, when it comes to writing, we mean business. Serious about writing? Come check us out. But, we warn you--you're going to enjoy yourself!

We meet every Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 PM in Room 220 of the Kroehler Science Center on the North Central College campus in Naperville. Please click here for a map of the college and here for driving directions. Informal networking continues after the meeting at a local restaurant.

You can get driving directions from Google here. Just type your "from" address into the form and click "Get Directions".

There are no meetings between Thanksgiving and the New Year.
